History: Southern Area Public Library was established in 1972 in Lost Creek, operating with volunteers until 1979. In 1984, the library was relocated to its current location on Main Street in Lost Creek. In 2013, the library was selected as The Best Small Library in America by The Library Journal and The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. In October 2013, the library was awarded the Frederic J. Glazer Innovation Award. The library continues with its charge to “make positive change in the community”.
